Monument Police Seek Gun Store Burglars

You might think that a thief would be reluctant to target a gun store where police officers are amongst the employees. But it happened in Monument about 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police Lt. Steve Burk said three men broke through a glass entry door, entered the gun store and fled with an unspecified number of handguns and rifles. Burk said the guns likely will be sold, and asked residents who plan to purchase guns privately to be alert.

“I’d take it to a local gun store, have them check it out and see if they have any information on the weapon,” he said.

Burk said the gun store is the only one in town and opened just six months ago. He said the store’s video camera captured clear images of two of the three suspects, as well as the apparent getaway car, described as a dark-colored late model Nissan Altima.
