Update: Man Dies After Accident On CO 69 Near Walsenburg

The Colorado State Patrol is reporting that one man is dead after colliding with a bridge railing north of Walsenburg.

The accident happened on Highway 69, about three miles north of Walsenburg.

According to crash investigators, a 1998 Toyota Rav4 was traveling westbound when it wandered off the right side of the road. The driver attempted to straighten the vehicle, but collided with a road sign and the end of the bridge railing.

The SUV came to rest on its wheels, but the single driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was killed.

Alcohol and drug use are not suspected in the crash. The man’s name has not yet been released.

State HWY 69 was completely shut down while CSP investigated the scene, and was not reopened until 5:30 p.m..
