Canon City Couple Wins Lotto Jackpot
An anniversary present turns out to be extra lucky for a Canon City couple.
The retired couple, who wishes to remain anonymous, won Wednesday night’s $2.7 million Lotto jackpot.
The husband says the lotto ticket was purchased as a gift for his wife on their 49th wedding anniversary. He forgot to give the ticket to his wife until he read the newspaper Friday morning. He checked the numbers and saw they matched all six numbers in the drawing.
He said he and his wife are simple folks and plan to stay that way.
The winning ticket was purchased at Kwik Stop at 420 Royal Gorge Blvd. The store will receive $5,000 for selling the lucky ticket.
The probability of winning the Lotto jackpot is 1 in 5.25 million, and overall probability of winning any Lotto prize is 1 in 35. More than 390 people have become millionaires playing Lotto since the game began in 1989, according to a press release.
Proceeds from the Colorado Lottery’s games stay in Colorado to improve the quality of life in the state.
