No Plea For Dougherty Brothers, Delay Granted

No pleas were entered Monday in the case of two siblings accused in a series of crimes across multiple states in southern Colorado.

Dylan Stanley Dougherty and Ryan Dougherty both appeared before a judge Monday in Walsenburg.

The brothers along with their sister each face five counts each of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and other felony charges related to a high speed chase and what authorities say was a shootout during their capture in August.

Lee Grace Dougherty pleaded not guilty last month.

The defense asked for a 60-day delay for the brothers. They say they want to wait for DNA test results from the weapons to come back. The defense also want to wait to see what is being done in their cases in other jurisdictions. They say this will help them better advise their clients. Prosecutors said the DNA test results are expected to come in this week.

The district attorney says 60 days is unnecessary, but the judge granted the delay. The brothers are due back in court on Jan. 30.

The judge asked the brothers if they understood everything that was happening and Ryan responded, “We’re all on the same page.”

The siblings are accused of robbing a bank in Georgia and shooting at police officers in Florida and Colorado. They are also suspected of two car thefts in Utah.
