Death Outside Springs Bar Officially A Homicide

The Coroner’s Office ruled today that the death outside a Colorado Springs bar early Saturday morning is a homicide.

Police say they are still looking for witnesses to the deadly fight outside Hondos Sports Bar on Centennial Blvd just north of Garden of the Gods.

The brawl left William “Josh” Landrum, 27, dead after police say he was hit by a softball sized rock. The fight happened just after 2 a.m. in the parking lot of Hondos. No arrests have been made.

Police say when they arrived on scene, eight to 10 people were fighting. When the crowd cleared, they say they found Landrum unconscious, his head and face badly bleeding. Witnesses told police that Landrum had been assaulted in a separate incident, and the people who hit him with the rock took off running to the west.

Landrum died at the hospital.

KRDO Newschannel 13 talked to Hondos patrons who said the people who started the fight were at another nearby bar, and came to the Hondos parking lot after the bar was already closed. They said the victim was inside Hondos for about 30 minutes before closing time.

Landrum’s death is the 27th homicide this year in Colorado Springs. The city’s deadliest year was in 2007 when there were 28 homicides.
