UPDATE: Cause Of Fire At Splendid Circle Home Released
Fire crews said an early morning fire at a home in the 4700 block of Splendid Circle was caused by careless smoking.
Firefighters said the family that lives in the home was not home when the fire sparked.
Neighbors told crews the family has not been home for the past few days, so it is unclear who was smoking on the back porch.
The fire sparked around 4:40 a.m. Friday. Crews said when they got to the home, the back deck was engulfed in flames.
According to firefighters, they were able to get the blaze quickly contained.
Firefighters said the family and property owner have been contacted. The home is not livable in its current state.
Damage is mostly contained to the back porch, kitchen and attic.
Firefighters said this is an important reminder that if you are going away for the holidays, you should walk through your home and do a safety inspection.
Some tips include opening the cabinet under your sink so that pipes don’t freeze, unplugging electronics from sockets and setting your thermostat to the low 60s.
Firefighters said it is also a good idea to ask a neighbor or someone you trust to keep an eye on your home if you are going to be away for more than a week.
