Occupy Denver Costs State Patrol Over $350,000

The Colorado State Patrol says it has spent more than $351,000 policing the Occupy Denver protests, including overtime, regular pay and logistics.

State Patrol spokesman Nate Reid said Wednesday the logistics expenses include water, gas mask filters, office supplies and other materials. The total covers the period through Sunday.

State troopers have been involved because some Occupy Denver rallies have taken place on the state Capitol grounds.

City officials say they’re still calculating Denver’s costs.

Officials said last month that five city departments incurred $365,000 in overtime over five days of the protest, but they later said that includes both overtime and regular time.

The nationwide Occupy protests have cost local taxpayers at least $13 million, according to a survey by The Associated Press.

The survey didn’t include Denver.
