170 Troops Home Just In Time For Turkey
Just in time for Thanksgiving, 170 Fort Carson soldiers were reunited with their families Sunday. They’re with the 43rd Sustainment Brigade’s 59th Quartermaster Company.
They helped supply petroleum and provided security for logistics patrols during their time in Afghanistan. They’re deployment was a shorter than usual; they were gone for seven months.
“The longest seven months of my life,” said Stephanie McKelvey as she waited at the special events center. “Can’t wait for it to be over. Almost there!”
Families said they’ll be especially thankful Thursday.
“The timing of it was perfect,” said Jeaneth Porco.
Like many military members, Porco’s husband has missed his share of holidays. It’s his third deployment.
“It’s getting really hard on the kids, so I’m glad this one was cut short and he’s coming come safe and sound,” she said.
She and her children had tears in their eyes as Staff Sgt. Joshua Porco marched in.
“It’s good to be back,” said Staff Sgt. Porco, after hugging his wife and kids. “I’m glad the deployment ended up getting shortened so we could be home for the holidays.”
