Neighbors Help Military Mom Who Lost Son

A neighborhood is coming together to help a military mom whose son was recently killed in combat. After all Scoti Domeij has been through, now the roof of her home is in danger of collapsing.

“We had a neighbor who’s a contractor come look at it, and he said it needs to be replaced ASAP,” said neighbor Michele Reckel. “It’s definitely going to collapse if it snows.”

Domeij’s son, Sargent 1st Class Kristoffer Domeij, was killed in October by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. His death got national attention ; at 29, Domeij was on his 14th deployment, more than any other Army Ranger killed in combat.

“It’s even worse with the holidays around the corner, and she’s thinking about her son,” said Reckel. “We’re just trying to bring a little happiness, just a tiny bit. Can’t do much, but if we can get that roof, maybe a little bit of worry won’t be on her heart right now.”

Reckel and her friend, Christine Spadafora, said they’ll do whatever it takes to replace Domeij’s roof. They and other neighbors are raising money and looking for donations

“We’ve got a great bunch of neighbors here, and we all try to look out for each other,” said Spadafora.
