Suspected Scam Letter Is Legit!

Nearly 5 million people are affected by a health records ripoff. One woman had a lot of questions and concerns about a letter addressed to her and her daughter. Jennifer Moreno thought the letter was a scam trying to grab information about her family and use it to steal her daughter’s identity.

Science Applications International Corporation or SAIC sent out the letter informing families of the computer backup health tapes that were stolen from an employee’s vehicle in the San Antonio area. SAIC supports TRICARE Management. The backup tapes included lab workups, names, social security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, lab tests provider names and provider locations. The stolen tapes did not include any financial information like credit card or bank account information.

SAIC tells me this security theft includes active duty military, their dependents, retirees and civilians. It affects anyone who had lab work done in TRICARE facilities in San Antonio or had the lab work sent to and done at the San Antonio location.

SAIC also says the data will be difficult to access because you need specific hardware and software to see it.

If you are affected, you will receive a letter from SAIC to notify you of the possible security issue.
