Caught On Cam: D-20 Student Attack

17 year old Isaac Collier won’t return to Pine Creek High School to finish out his senior year. He and his parents showed me surveillance video they received from School District 20 of an attack in school against Isaac.

Isaac tells me the other student blindsided him from behind. Since that attack in May, Isaac and his parents showed me the mounting medical bills. Isaac says he’s got extreme back pain and depression following the attack. He is now being home-schooled by his mother who is a teacher. The Colliers showed me more what they say are thousands of medical bills that Isaac has incurred since the attack.

The Colliers also believe the other student who attacked him is a danger to other students. They wonder why he’s still in school and why they believe the District isn’t doing enough to have protected their son or other children.

There is a pending criminal case against the other student who is a minor and not being identified in this story.

A pre-trial conference is set for that case on November 28th.

Here is the written response from School District 20 about the incident and how it was handled by school officials:

The incident that occurred last May involving Isaac Collier was appropriately reported to law enforcement in a timely manner. The district cannot comment on police investigations. Although the student appeared to have only minor injuries initially, law enforcement officials have been notified each time reports of lingering or additional injuries were received. The school district did take disciplinary action against the other student. The district cannot disclose the details of that action. School administrators and school security officers who investigated this incident said there is no indication that this was an ongoing situation that would constitute bullying. Nobody thinks this incident was a joke and that is why it was reported to law enforcement and investigated by school administrators.

Because the school did not cause Isaac?s injuries, the district is not financially responsible for medical bills or physical therapy.

Yes, Isaac texted his parents before the school could contact them and Isaac?s mom called the school right away, we can certainly understand her urgency to find out about this incident.
