Pueblo Police Searching For Shooting Suspect
Pueblo police are still searching for a suspect in a shooting that happened early Sunday.
They?ve interviewed several people, including a number of CSU-Pueblo football players.
The shooting sent one person to the hospital. It all started at a house party where some CSU-Pueblo students and football players were gathered.
Bloodstains are a permanent reminder of Sunday morning?s shooting.
?Every weekend we get a text reminding us to be safe on the weekend,? said Peter Rossiutsev.
Rossiutsev is a basketball player at CSU-Pueblo.
He heard about the shooting that happened on the 1300 block of Horseshoe Drive. What he didn?t know was that CSU-Pueblo football players were at the house party where it all started.
?Another opposing group showed up from another party they had been at, and multiple fights broke out up and down Horseshoe,? said Deputy Chief Andrew McLachlan.
Then, a shooting sent 24-year-old Darren Hurd to the hospital. Hurd was shot in the chest. He?s in ICU at Parkview in stable condition.
?We do not have any firm evidence that points us to the shooter in this case,? said McLachlan.
Police have interviewed around 50 people, including some CSU-Pueblo football players.
?There were CSU-Pueblo students present. We are interviewing them, but there were just as many other students,? said McLachlan.
KRDO NewsChannel 13 talked to some football players who heard about what happened, but none wanted to go on camera.
?I do believe athletes have a higher expectations as compared to regular students because we have a fan base and younger children look up to us,? said Rossiutsev.
We tried to get in contact with officials from CSU-Pueblo, including the athletic director, but have not heard back.
All this is happening as CSU-Pueblo?s football team prepares to go on a postseason run. Expectations have been running high for the Thunderwolves.
