UPDATE: One Person Killed in Deadly Crash

Newschannel 13 has learned that a man was killed when he was hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 50 and Cottonwood Avenue on Thursday night.

Police and Highway Patrol are at the scene near the McDonald’s restaurant. Several lanes of traffic have been closed for the investigation.

A 1999 Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on Colorado 50 in the left lane, police said.

The driver of the Ford steered to the left to try and avoid the pedestrian. The pedestrian was crossing Colorado 50, traveling from the south shoulder to the north side of the highway. The pedestrian walked in front of the Ford F-150 as it traveled eastbound and was hit by the Fords right front. The pedestrian was thrown and came to rest in the middle lane of eastbound Colorado 50. The Ford F-150 came to a controlled stop on the left side of the roadway.

Police say the man who dies is a 56 year old from Canon City. Police aren’t releasing his identity until his family is notified.

The man driving the Ford was not injured.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor, on the pedestrian’s part, in the crash.
