Small Plane Crashes Near Alamosa, Kills One

One man is dead after his small plane crashed at the regional airport near Alamosa Thursday afternoon. according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Cessna 337 crashed 2 miles south of Alamosa, near the San Luis Valley Regional Airport-Bergman Field at about 4:30 p.m.

The plane was heading to Salida when it went down, according to information obtained by the Alamosa Valley Courier.

Authorities haven’t identified the pilot but Alamosa County Sheriff Dave Stong said Friday that the plane was associated with a Canadian ministry, the Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots.

A ministry blog said one of its members, the Rev. Steve Dreher, died in the crash. The executive director of the Edmonton-based group, Ron Ludke, declined further comment. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
