100+ Soldiers Return Home to Fort Carson

More than 100 soldiers from a quartermaster company returned to Fort Carson after a seven-month deployment to Iraq.

A homecoming ceremony was held Thursday morning for the 110 soldiers.

They are members of the 549th Quartermaster Company, part of the 43rd Sustainment Brigade.

Soldiers said their company was responsible for making sure operations ran smoothly at the Victory Base Complex in Iraq. They also helped remove equipment as U.S. troops prepare to leave Iraq.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 spoke to Nicole Goodnough, who anxiously waited for her husband to return Thursday morning.

She has been married to Lt. Andrew Goodnough for two years, but for nearly eight months of their marriage, he has been deployed.

“I have slept like six hours this week,” said Nicole. “I’m just so excited. There are so many emotions.”

Nicole held a sign at the homecoming ceremony that read “My Husband My Best Friend My Hero.” She was in tears as she ran to hug him at the ceremony.

The couple plans to enjoy just being back together again. Their families are in New York and they said they plan to visit soon.
