Man Arrested After Standoff In Colorado Springs
A standoff at Lynmar Apartments is now over with a suspect in custody.
Colorado Springs police said the incident involving Henry Armijo, 22, began around 3 p.m. near the intersection of Vickers Drive and North Union Boulevard. Vickers was closed west of Union while police tried to get Armijo out of a ground-floor apartment unit.
Some nearby apartments, including Lynmar Apartments, were evacuated while Falcon division officers searched for Armijo. Other residents were told to remain inside and away from walls. After ignoring several warnings to come out, police said Armijo surrendered peacefully around 6 p.m.
Police said Armijo was wanted for a previous burglary with weapons. Officers did not say whether they found weapons in the apartment, and it’s unclear whether Armijo lived there.
The scene was hectic at times, as police tried to capture Armijo, detour rush-hour traffic from the area and try to reassure residents who were eager to get home, or contact family and friends at the complex.
