Deadly Rollover Accident On US 285
There was a deadly accident Monday morning on US-285 near mile post 69 in Saguache County.
Colorado State Patrol, Saguache Deputies, and Center Fire and Ambulance responded to the scene around 4:00 a.m.
A 1997 Ford F150 was traveling southbound on US-285 when it went off the left side of the road and into the ditch. Investigators say it appears the driver fell asleep at the wheel and woke up when he went into the ditch. The driver attempted to steer the truck back onto the road, causing it to lose control and roll three times.
The driver was wearing a seat belt but sustained deadly injuries as a result of the rollover. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The identity of the driver was established through fingerprints by the CSP Immigration Unit, but his name will not be released until family is notified. The driver is suspected to be a citizen of Mexico.
