Stairs & Problems
The new Disabled American Veterans office in Colorado Springs stirs up some questions from you. The new office to help process veteran claims is at 660 Southpointe Court, suite 316. However, there are two flights of stairs to maneuver, to get up to the third floor office. There is no elevator in this building. If you’re a disabled veteran, it could be rough or nearly impossible to make the trip up to the office.
I did some investigating and learned that this is a temporary situation, at least for a few months. Realtor Jack Gloriod owns the building. He donated free space for five years to the D.A.V. He told me he saw that there was a need and he’s an old army soldier who already helps vets and their families.
Gloriod is also building a new glass elevator to replace the stairs and make it easier for veterans to go up to the third floor office. The elevator will be under construction starting in December. Gloriod hopes to have it completed, a few months later.
Newell Ray helps his veteran buddy, Bobby Crawford. Both told me of their concerns about the stairs and no elevator. D.A.V. Service Center Coordinator Steve Stewart also tells me that while under construction, he is more than happy to meet with any veteran or their family member at the lower level conference room if they don’t feel comfortable walking up the stairs.
