Kidnapping Victim Found Safe

The victim in a kidnapping that started in Security has been found safe in Colorado Springs.

The kidnapping suspect, 35-year-old Herbert Hudson of Pueblo, was caught by Pueblo Police after a foot chase. He was captured in the 1300 block of Claremont in Pueblo. The victim, 28-year-old Danielle Garcia, was still missing for several hours after the suspect was found. She was found at 9:20 p.m. at a residence in the 400 block of Prairie Rd. El Paso County Sheriff’s office says Garcia was found with minor injuries and did not need medical attention. She was taken to the Sheriff’s office and is speaking with detectives. Hudson claimed he had amnesia and doesn’t remember anything that happened between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

At 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, a 68-year-old Security woman reported a male had just stabbed her son and kidnapped a woman from her home in the 5000 block of Wainwright Drive in Security. Hudson and Garcia were missing when Sheriff’s deputies arrived.

Hudson entered the residence and had an altercation with the male victim upstairs where he stabbed him numerous times. Hudson then took Garcia, who was wearing only a t-shirt, out of the house at knife point.

Sources tell KRDO Newschannel 13 that Hudson and Garcia are married.

The 43-year-old victim who was stabbed had multiple wounds to his arms, back and neck and was transported to Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is in critical condition.

Hudson was wanted for criminal attempt, murder in the first degree, first degree kidnapping, and first degree burglary.

Hudson was previously convicted of second-degree murder for shooting 26-year-old Roy Mitchell. That conviction was later overturned on appeal and he eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Mitchell was killed in 2000 and Hudson was arrested 14 months later after the body was found in a West Side construction site.

Hudson had claimed he shot Mitchell in self-defense.

After the ruling, Hudson agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 12 years in prison, the maximum time available.

By then, Hudson had spent 10 years either in prison or in the Pueblo County jail awaiting trial and was given credit for that time.

According to the Colorado Department of Corrections records, Herbert Hudson, 35, was paroled to Pueblo on Aug. 9, 2011.
