Elderly Couple Packing Up After Break-In, Attack
An elderly couple beaten up and robbed in their home will leave Colorado Springs as soon as they are well enough.
Dale and Dorothy Nachazel were attacked Friday morning, and on Sunday their daughter arrived to help pack up their belongings. Deborah Roebuck said her parents, both in their 70s, had been planning to move to the East Coast to be closer to her, but the brutal attack sped things up.
“I was devastated, just shocked that this would happen,” said Roebuck. “This is the last thing I ever though would happen to them.”
She said her parents had lived on Grafton Drive, near Jet Wing Drive and South Chelton Road, for 12 years. The Nachazels were known by neighbors as the grandparents of the block.
Dale was released from the hospital Saturday night. Dorothy remained there, but was moved from intensive care.
“She’s still pretty bruised up and sore, but she’s in good spirits,” said Roebuck. “She’s going to be fine.”
Roebuck said her dad was also bruised and had a gash on his head.
“He’s taking today a little bit hard, moving out of the house,” said Roebuck.
She said she appreciates the support from the community and her parents’ neighbors. Some of them helped load up the U-Haul Sunday.
“I just want everybody to know that they’re doing well, they’re strong, they’re going to pull through this,” said Roebuck, of her parents. “Obviously we hope to find whoever did this to them and that there’s some justice for my parents.”
She said police told her that they are continuing to follow leads on the break in. The three suspects are described as black men in their late teens or early 20s.
There’s a fund set up for the Nachazels at Academy Bank to help with medical expenses. There’s an Academy Bank in all area Walmart stores.
