Two Men Wanted In Beating Death

Johnny Martinez, 47, has had a hard life. ?Even though he was homeless, he is still loved and missed,? said Kevin Bentley, his brother.

They told KRDO NEWSCHANNEL 13 the day of the attack they tried to bring him home. ?It was getting cold and my brother wanted him to come home and get inside,? said Bentley.

He said Martinez refused because he could walk, due to gout.

His family says when the weather got warm he wanted to be outside. ?He had his downfalls,? said Bentley, but he said that his brother didn?t deserve to die.

On September 13 Martinez was sleeping in the playground set at Dorchester Park, near South Nevada Ave and I-25 when police said two men began beating him.

Police told KRDO NEWSCHANNEL 13 that at first Martinez refused to get medical treatment, but later was taken to the hospital. He later slipped into a coma and then died a week later.

Detective Jeff Jensen said medical crews were able to get a little information from Martinez about his attackers, but because he was sleeping during the attack, all homicide detectives have to go on is two Hispanic men in their late teens to early 20?s.

Bentley is pleading for anyone who might has seen anything to call police. Bentley said one thing that set his brother apart was the silver cross with a black leather necklace that he wore.

A rain storm the night of the attack left little clues for homicide detectives.

If you have any information call police at 444-7000.
