Southern Colorado Power Problems

Several power outages have been reported throughout the day across Southern Colorado on Wednesday.

Teller County Sheriff disatch confirms a power outage in the Florissant area Wednesday afternoon. The outage affected around 1400 customers from Teller County Road 1 to the Guffy area at its peak. Intermountain Rural Electric Association is switching lines to restore power to customers.

A power outage hit a portion of Colorado Springs and El Paso County early Wednesday morning. Colorado Springs Utilities says it affected about 500 customers near the B Street and South Academy Boulevard and lasted around an hour, according to Springs Utilities. It was caused by a blown transformer and weather was the likely cause, Utilities said.

Larger outages were reported early in the afternoon in the Canon City area. Black Hills Energy says there were three separate outages around Canon City affecting a little more than 2,100 customers at the peak, according to information on the Black Hills Energy web site. Some customers saw power return before 2:00pm while others were still waiting.

Some small outages were happening in Pueblo as well. KRDO, NewsChannel 13’s Lila Hollin says the Pueblo Fire Department reported hearing of several reports of arcing lines and some tree limbs down on some lines. Black Hills Energy has not returned our calls for information regarding power problems in the Pueblo area.
