New Details On Deadly Calhan Love Triangle
According to arrest records, a Calhan couple confessed to luring a man to their home to kill him Saturday evening.
On Tuesday, Mark Manyik, 48, and Traci Adams, 47, were advised of the charges against them in the murder of Robert Miles, Adams’ ex-boyfriend. Charges include first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and tampering with physical evidence. Both will be held at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center without bond.
Authorities said Manyik shot Miles with a 12 gauge shotgun. Miles died at a local hospital.
According to arrest records, the plan was hatched the day before the killing. Adams told investigators that Manyik had decided Friday that he wanted to “do something” to Miles.
Adams admitted to inviting Miles to the home that night, telling him that Manyik was out of town. Adams’ phone records showed 16 successive phone calls to Miles. Their last conversation happened just minutes before he was killed.
Detectives said they also recovered a voicemail Manyik left for Miles on Friday threatening to shoot him in “the belly” with a “12 gauge,” according to the affidavit. The affidavit said Mayik and Adams admitted to disposing Miles’ cell phone so there wouldn’t be evidence.
Manyik called 911 after shooting Miles saying Miles was an intruder who had “busted down his door.”
Friends of Miles told KRDO Newschannel 13 on Sunday that they were with him when Adams repeatedly called and texted him, urging him to come over. They went to investigators with the information too, alleging the couple conspired to lure Miles to his death, then used the ‘Make My Day’ law as a cover story. The couple was arrested Monday.
Michael Sandage and Trent Svitak, who said they live on a ranch they rent from Miles, said there had been trouble before among the suspects and the victim.
“Mark had a knife out, threatening Robert with it,” said Sandage. “I stepped in and separated them. They left when I told them to leave. Mark pushed my wife.”
The two friends said Miles had recently celebrated is 55th birthday and had plans to visit his daughter in Arizona who he hadn’t seen in years.
Manyok and Adams were in court for an advisement hearing Tuesday. They will both face a judge again on Oct. 31.
