Solicitors Creating Problems At Springs Mall

Broadmoor Towne Center customers and business owners tell KRDO Newschannel 13 that magazine salesmen have become a growing problem recently

Jainnie J. said she has started noticing the salesmen over the past week, and says ?it?s uncomfortable knowing that they?re out there, just sort of stalking people.?

Jainnie said the group consists of about six or seven young individuals, saying they request credit card numbers in return for magazine subscriptions. Jainnie said the salesmen are aggressive and approach people in the parking lots.

?It?s really bothersome and I just don?t feel like shopping here anymore,? said Jainnie.

Business owners also unhappy with the salesmen.

?People aren?t coming in. They?re afraid to get out of their cars, so we?re losing business,? said Dorothy Converse, owner of Extreme Pizza.

To ensure the safety of her customers, Converse said that she has been stepping in.

?If there?s one of these groups of people coming up to our customers, we actually tell the customers that these people are not legitimate, don?t buy anything from them. They usually just walk away,? said Converse.

Converse said that retaliation is something that she is afraid of. She says that the restroom of her restaurant has been vandalized by the individuals she believes are part of the sales team.

Converse said she is unsure what company the salesman are working for, but is skeptical of their legitimacy.

?I know of a customer that did exactly what they asked for. They did buy magazines through them. I know now, that they never received these magazines. So, I don?t know what they?re doing with their information,? said Converse.

Converse said she has teamed up with other business owners, and has contacted the police in hopes of resolving this issue before the holiday season.
