Climbing Accident Kills Pueblo West Man
The rock climber who died in a climbing accident on Sunday is identified as Kelly Riggins, a 36-year-old man from Pueblo West.
Riggins was killed in a rock climbing accident Sunday afternoon in Fremont County.
It happened around 3:30 just off Highway 50 west of Cotopaxi. Riggins was an inexperienced climber according to friends who talked with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Fremont County Coroner, Riggins was not wearing a helmet and was not properly locked into his safety harness. He fell an estimated 60-70 feet and died of a head injury.
Riggins was with a friend who told authorities he was an experienced climber.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said there’s no indication of foul play.
