Springs Hoarder Charged With Animal Cruelty

A Colorado Springs woman has been charged with 57 counts of cruelty to animals.

According to the Human Society of the PIkes Peak Region (HSPPR), they were alerted about a potential hoarding or animal cruelty situation on the 1400 block of Diamond Rim.

After obtaining a search warrant, Animal Law Enforcement Officers found 57 small mammals living in unacceptable living conditions on Tuesday.

Officers described the condition of the property as deplorable. They say animals were living in their feces and the smell of ammonia from animal urine was overpowering the residence. Animals were left without proper food, water and medical care.

57 mammals consisting of ferrets, rabbits, rats, sugar gliders, guinea pigs and hedge hogs are now being properly cared for, and medically attended to at HSPPR.

Jessica Elrod has been charged with 57 counts of cruelty to animals.
