UPDATE: Gas Line Clamped At Northwind Dr.

A gas line has been clamped and Colorado Springs Utilities are handling repairs according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

CSFD responded to a gas line that was hit at Northwind Dr and Softbreeze Way Wednesday morning.

CSFD says a 2-inch natural gas line was breached underground. Crews worked to fix the break which is about 5 ft underground.

Homes have been evacuated within a 200 ft perimeter. Others in the area are being asked to stay in their homes with windows and doors closed.

Firefighters said a contractor was trying to install cables this morning when he accidentally hit the gas line.

According to firefighters, extra safety precautions are taken when there is a gas line break because a small spark could cause an explosion.
