Sanctuary Needs Help To Save Tiger’s Life
He’s one of 17 rare snow tigers in the United States, and workers at the Serenity Springs Wildlife Center need help to keep him alive.
Snow Magic developed an aneurysm in his spine about 2 years ago and needs life-saving surgery. The 500-pound tiger came to Serenity Springs three years ago from a magic show in Las Vegas. Surgeons will amputate one of Snow Magic’s hind legs.
“We found out that it is dislocated, and can’t be put back in because the muscle has deteriorated for not being used, so what we’ve decided to do is prolong his life and amputate the leg and let him live, ” Julie Walker of Serenity Springs said.
Michelle Abosida visited the center from Utah Saturday. “I think that was the better of the two choices, because they said otherwise they’d have to put him to sleep. So it’s going to be an expensive surgery,” Abosida said.
The wildlife center said the surgery will cost up to $10,000. They also want to build a new recovery enclosure for Snow Magic, which will also be used to help other recovering tigers in the future.
Serenity Springs Wildlife Center houses 118 big cats and 25 other exotic felines.
