Occupy Springs Protesters React To Denver Arrests
Protesters with the Occupy Colorado Springs movement said they were not surprised to see Denver police clearing out Civic Center Park Friday morning.
According to Denver police, at least 23 people were arrested.
Protesters in Colorado Springs watched live video of the arrests and said they consider the arrests the next step in getting their voices heard.
Sean Konik was at Acacia Park overnight and said the arrests will not slow down the Occupy movement.
“We had a guy with a smartphone and saw the live feed and honestly, it doesn’t scare us,” Konik said. “We know it’s going to happen and a big part of it is we know we’re being heard.”
Konik said he is seeing more and more people join protesters at Acacia Park every day. He said demonstrators do not plan to stop until Americans take responsibility for the future.
He said change is necessary because the current economic and political structure in the United States is unsustainable.
So far, no one has been arrested in Colorado Springs. Police have warned protesters that setting up tents violates the city’s no-camping ordinance.
