Booze Bears

A new trend for underage drinking is sweeping the nation. It involves using gummi bears. The bear are soaked in vodka or other spirits and brought to school or parties.

Safe2Tell, a kid friendly organization has already received two tips from children about a similar problem in Colorado Springs over the past week. Executive Director Susan Payne tells me the homemade candy she got tips on was like a taffy made with drugs and alcohol. The students who called in the tips called Angel Candy.

Payne believes this new booze bear threat with gummis, makes it even more important for parents to have a conversation with their children, long before they’re actually exposed to the new bear/alcohol problem.

I contacted the larger Southern Colorado school districts to find out if they’ve seen this in school. None have seen any indication of it but are now aware of it.
