Kid Math Superstars
Colorado Springs largest school district unveils its newest tool to help your kids become math superstars. It’s called ST Math. The abbreviation stands for spatial temporal. D-11 is also the first in Southern Colorado to have this high tech.
Jeanice Swift is the District 11 Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, Curriculum and Student Services. She tells us the program works to really build that visual understanding of math by using a special game software. Chlldren play math games at their grade level and also move on to challenge games to reinforce math concepts.
This program has been proven for more than ten years in more than 1000 schools in 24 states.
Leo Zook is a fourth grader who showed us around ST Math on the computer. He says, “last year was boring, sitting in the room, writing it all down on a piece of paper.” Now, Zook says math is fun because it’s a game. I asked him how he learns more because of ST Math? He told me, “it gets stuck in your brain so you remember all of it.”
We’ve also posted a link to the creator of ST Math under links we mentioned.
