Charges Filed Against Iraqi Vet Murder Suspect
Official charges have been filed against a man accused in the murder of Matthew Moore.
Rodrigo Rubio has been charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of kidnapping.
His next court date is set for Oct. 13th.
Matthew Moore was a decorated Iraqi war veteran and a father to two boys. He was 27 years old on June 30th when he was shot and killed near a Colorado Springs church.
Investigators believe Moore, 27, was shot outside Calvary Baptist Church on South Corona Avenue and then ran to homes on Warren Avenue and knocked on doors for help.
Colorado Springs police arrested Rubio, 23, in Phoenix, Ariz., with the help of the Phoenix Police Department. Investigators said Rubio lives in Phoenix, but was in Colorado Springs at the time of the killing. He was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping.
Police said they also arrested Michael Berkowitz, 62, in Colorado Springs. He was charged with accessory to first-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping. Berkowitz is the owner of the green Jeep that was seen at the scene of the crime.
