Time To Check Carbon Monoxide Detectors
As people shut their windows and crank up their furnaces, Colorado Springs Firefighters warn people to check their carbon monoxide detectors.
According the CDC, carbon monoxide is the cause of 500 deaths each year. It also puts thousands in the hospital.
“With the weather turning colder and the current economic conditions, this may be the first time people’s furnaces have kicked on this season,” said Tom Ruane, Colorado Springs Firefighter.
“We clone it as the silent killer,” said Ruane.
According to the CDC, the odorless, colorless gas can build up if furnaces, wood-burning stoves, and charcoal grills aren’t properly vented or used in confined spaces.
Signs of poising are flu-like and including vomiting, dizziness, headache and chest pain.
Firefighters are urge people to also check to make sure their smoke detectors are working.
