Co. Springs Homicide Unit, High Arrest Rate

There have been 24 homicides in Colorado Springs so far this year, with the record being 28.

Thursday night and Friday morning the Colorado Springs Police Department made some major arrests in the Bonita Village shooting from two weeks ago.

Donny Lopez, Robert Pesante and Antonio Pegues are all under arrest. Police said the arrests came about after community tips and hard working detectives.

CSPD’s homicide unit boasts one of the best homicide departments at the national level.

“It feels good, the department is extremely proud of our homicide investigators and all of the support units that have been helping them out,” said Sgt. Darrin Abbink.

Police department representatives said they expect a high 90 to 100 percent arrest rate in homicides for 2011.
