Identity Theft Suspect Caught At Home Depot
A credit fraud bust at Home Depot led to an arrest involving multiple charges of identity theft, drug, and weapons charges.
Colorado Springs Police Officers were dispatched to the Home Depot at 102 N. Academy Blvd for a fraud in progress on Monday.
The suspect, Johnny Gilliland, allegedly used a forged identification card to get a store credit card. The Home Depot loss prevention officer called police and they took Gilliland into custody. Over the course of about two weeks, Gilliland used the credit card to buy $5,600 worth of merchandise.
After searching his vehicle, officers found methamphetamine, items consistent with the distribution and use of methamphetamine, and a stolen handgun.
They also found as many as 15 different victims’ identification cards.
Gilliland was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for multiple charges involving theft, drug, and weapons charges. He was also identified as a previously convicted felon.
