Apple Reveals iPhone 4S

In typical anticipation-building fashion, Apple hosted the “Let’s Talk iPhone” event in Cupertino, California Tuesday.

This is the first major event hosted by the new Apple CEO, Tim Cook, since he took over for Steve Jobs in July.

The tech world was buzzing about what the new iPhone will be like and what surprises would be in store. But people awaiting the iPhone 5 were met with the biggest surprise of all–there isn’t one.

Apple did, however, reveal a newer version of the current model, called the iPhone 4S.

The new model looks and feels just like the iPhone 4. But Apple says the inside is completely new.

It’s packed with an A5 dual core processor which is the same processor in the iPad2. This makes data processing twice as fast, and loading graphics seven times as fast.

It has an 8-megapixel camera, which outclasses the iPhone 4’s 5-megapixel camera. It also boasts a better battery life, allowing users to talk on the phone for 8 hours on one charge.

Perhaps the coolest new feature of the iPhone 4S is Siri, a “personal assistant” that takes voice commands. Siri can translate speech to text and help you send text messages, browse the web, check the weather, and get directions hands-free.

Apple also announced, almost nonchalantly, that Sprint will now be carrying the iPhone 4 and 4S.

The iPhone 4S comes in both black and white, starting at $199 for 16GB and $299 for the 32GB. There’s also a new 64GB model coming in at $399.

It will be available to customers on Oct. 14th, and can be pre-ordered starting Oct. 7th.
