Verdict Reached In Baby Shaking Death

A verdict has been reached in the trial of a man accused of killing a two-month old.

George Peters has been declared not guilty in the murder of two-month-old Nicholas Johnson.

He is guilty of child abuse resulting in death. He is also guilty of child abuse resulting in injury in the case of his own son, Gabriel Peters, as well as two more counts of child abuse on his son.

Colorado Springs Police say George Peters was babysitting in February when the incident occurred. Peters told detectives he couldn’t take Nicholas Johnson’s crying anymore, and shook the baby.

Nicholas was rushed to Memorial Hospital with a brain bleed.

Prosecutors allege Peters was a heroin addict, but defense attorneys argued Nicholas had an undiagnosed brain condition that made him susceptible to injuries.

Prosecutors say Peters could face up to 80 years in prison at a sentencing hearing scheduled for Dec. 5.
