Slippery Substance Causes 12-Vehicle Pileup
The Colorado State Patrol requests assistance from the public to locate the vehicle or party responsible for dropping an unknown material that caused several crashes this morning on I-70 and I-76.
Police say several accidents including a 12-car pileup were caused by an unknown slick substance.
Eastbound lanes of I-70 in the Denver-area were closed this morning due to the pileup. Police in suburban Wheat Ridge say the crash occurred at about 6 a.m. Monday.
The lanes reopened before 9 a.m.
The material was described as a dry soil-like substance that is very slippery when on the roadway. The material was determined in be non-hazardous.
Police also responded to a single vehicle motorcycle crash on I-76 that they believe was caused by the substance. One male was injured in that crash.
