Beating Death Of Homeless Man Ruled Homicide
An assault on a homeless man that resulted in his death has been ruled a homicide by the Colorado Springs Police Department.
The victim is identified as 47-year-old John Carlos Martinez.
On September 14th, CSPD was dispatched to Dorchester Park to investigate an assault. Officers learned that a homeless man was attacked the previous night. The assault was reported to police by a third party. Martinez’s injuries were severe and he was hospitalized due to his injuries.
Martinez died on Thursday, September 22nd. According to the autopsy completed by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office, the manner of death is ruled a homicide due to blunt force trauma.
The CSPD Homicide Unit continues to investigate this case, but has little information about the suspects other than they may be two Hispanic males.
This is the 22nd homicide in Colorado Springs this year. There were 17 homicides at this time last year.
