Failed Hooters Liquor Sting Raising Questions

A lot of questions are coming up, surrounding the failed liquor sting at the Citadel Mall Hooters.

2 Colorado Springs Detectives ticketed the Hooters for serving alcohol to a person who was visibly drunk. But the case was dismissed after Hooters attorneys say video shows the officers weren’t truthful and were drinking.

The attorneys for Hooters and the waitress accused of serving alcohol to an already intoxicated person say the video proves the person wasn’t stumbling drunk like the officers claimed.

Target 13 Investigates did confirm through CSPD Standing Operating Procedures for Metro VNI, that drinking alcohol is not allowed except “with approval of the employee’s commanding officer.” It further states, “the use of an alcoholic beverage can assist as a tactical tool in carrying out the mission; i.e., bar checks, prostitution detail, meetings with drug distributors, etc.”

Some KRDO Newschannel 13 viewers have been contacting us, questioning whether the officers really needed to order alcohol to blend in at a place like Hooters.

Others question why the officers didn’t follow up to make sure the intoxicated person who was served more alcohol didn’t end up driving home drunk.

Although attorneys for Hooters won’t release the video they say proves the officers were dishonest and drinking, Target 13 filed an open records request with CSPD.

A spokesman for CSPD says the material should be available to us Wednesday. He also says it’s not clear yet that the officers actually drank any beer. He says ordering beer and drinking it are 2 different things.
