Colorado Springs bail bondsman Bobby Brown is suing the creators of the A&E television show ?Dog the Bounty Hunter.?
Court documents obtained by TARGET 13 Investigates shows Brown is seeking more than $75,000 in damages. For the suit to be in federal court the damage must be over that amount.
The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday against A&E, Hybrid Films and D&D Television claims Brown was only paid $6,000 for his contributions to the show.
Court records state Brown appeared in more than 40 shows, which he said, he helped lay the foundation for. It also states that he hasn?t been compensated for each of the Colorado episodes.
The show has grossed more than $400 million according to court papers. Brown feels as one of the stars of the show he deserves some of the revenue from the TV show and DVD sales.
In the suit, Brown states Duane ?Dog? Chapman promised to make Brown a ?full-time member? of the reality TV show, which films in Hawaii and Colorado, with compensation on par with Chapman and wife, Beth.
Brown ended his relationship with the show in 2009 after promises of a contract never materialized.
Brown is suing A&E because he feels the network, and the shows creators breached his contract for using his likeness for their own commercial gain without compensating him and also for making false promises that led him to focus on the show instead of his bail bonds business
Brown told TARGET 13 Investigator Tak Landrock that he couldn?t comment on the pending litigation, per his attorney. He did say that this suit is hard and it has nothing to do with his relationship with the Chapmans.
Brown has been friends with “Dog” for more than 30 years.
Calls to A&E haven?t been returned as of Friday afternoon.
