CSU Student Dies, Unknown Cause

A Colorado State University student died at an off-campus apartment Saturday night. So far, an autopsy has not shown how she died.

The Larimer County coroner’s office confirmed with our sister station 7NEWS in Denver that 19-year-old Sascha Franzel died at a Ram’s Village apartment at 10:15 p.m. Saturday.

Franzel was a sophomore biology student from Hawaii.

Fort Collins police Sgt. Jon Holsten says Franzel’s roommates were giving her CPR when paramedics arrived. Franzel died at Poudre Valley Hospital.

An autopsy performed Sunday afternoon did not reveal a cause of death. More tests and toxicology results will take at least a week or two.

Police indicated there were no signs of foul play.

According to Holsten, detective found evidence that Franzel had been drinking Saturday night.

He said pending the autopsy results, police are not treating this as a strictly alcohol-related death.

A candlelight vigil will take place Monday from 8:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. on campus at Colorado State University on the Oval.
