Cop Killer’s Sister Finds Evidence Stuck In Shoulder
The victim of a cop killer says a piece of the knife she was stabbed with was recently found still inside her.
Melanie Schweinhardt is the sister of Jeremy Lamberth. In February 2006, Lamberth stabbed Schweinhardt more than a dozen times, then ran from the law and shot and killed Officer Jared Jensen.
Lamberth received 96 year prison sentences for each crime.
Schweinhardt has since moved to Florida for a new job and to move on with her life. Recently, she went to get an x-ray of her shoulder because it’s been hurting since the attack. She avoided the doctor until recently because she says she always thought she’d just have to live with the pain. She says the x-ray shows a piece of the knife is still stuck in her shoulder. Now she says she and her kids are reliving it all over again.
“I got over the nightmares, I got over getting the kids to where they are now, because remember the kids saw it all, so I thought it was over. It’s not over,” she says.
KRDO NewsChannel 13’s Dr. John Torres looked over the x-rays Schweinhardt sent us and says he can understand how doctors 5 years ago may have missed the piece of knife in her shoulder.
“There’s never an excuse to miss something like that,” he says, “but in this case I can see how it happened because it was very deep, you can’t reach down that far, they’re (patients) in a lot of pain, you’re trying to sew it up to make sure it doesn’t get infected, that possibly could happen.”
Schweinhardt was treated at Memorial Hospital after the attack. A spokesperson for Memorial tells us they can’t comment because of patient privacy laws.
“I think they just need to be more careful especially something like that where they’re the hospital surgeons,” Schweinhardt says, “they really need to look, I mean this was a big case so there should not have been any mistakes, period.”
Schweinhardt is consulting an attorney in Florida.
