Cone Zones Disappearing From Marksheffel
Cone zones will soon be disappearing from Marksheffel road. A widening project is expected to be complete by the last week in September.
“The overall work area is just north of highway 24… through Constitution…up to just north of Carefree,” said Andre Brackin, El Paso county engineer.
Brackin said the plan to widen the section of roadway has been in the works for about five years.
“We’re seeing a lot of need for commuter traffic for Peterson Air Force Base and Schriever Air Force Base,” said Brackin. He said about 20,000 cars drive the stretch of roadway daily.
In addition to adding two lanes of traffic, construction crews have been improving and changing utility lines underneath the surface.
The total cost of the project hits about $17 million. The Pikes Peak Regional Transit Authority has funded the project through a 1 cent sales tax.
