Counterfeit Cash In Colorado
Counterfeit bills are being passed in Pueblo and Denver.
Denver police said they can?t confirm the cases are connected, but they will be in touch with the Pueblo police to compare notes.
Several local business owners in Pueblo said they are going to start taking a closer look at the bills coming in.
Robert Valdez knows in order to keep his doors open, he has to make the sale.
?We live day to day sometimes, like most local businesses,? said Valdez.
He owns a printing shop in Pueblo. Valdez was surprised when we told him about the fake money found in the Steel City.
?Oh, I think that’s horrible, because once a business gets a counterfeit bill there?s nothing you can do. You’re basically out of luck. Five bucks or 100 bucks if you lose money, you lose money,? said Valdez.
Stefanie Baca owns The Ten Spot, she was also surprised when she heard the news.
?It probably will make me look even closer,? said Baca.
Last week, a Family Dollar and Western Convenience store received a fake $100 dollar bill, according to police. Police said there were five dollar bills altered to appear like a 100 dollar bill. The fake bills in Denver are being altered in the same way.
?Must be pretty savvy people,? said Valdez.
The suspect in one of the cases is a Hispanic female, about 5?6 with dark hair. If you have any information, call police.
