Elected Official Ordered To Pay Pueblo Store Nearly $60,000

A judge orders an elected official who also heads a youth sports league to pay a Pueblo Sports shop nearly $60,000.

Johnson’s Sports sued and received the judgement last week against John Lisi, a Pueblo West Metro Board Member.

Shop Owner Nancy Johnson says they tried repeatedly to get Lisi to pay for the youth football gear he ordered and took, but he never paid.

Johnson says they never wanted to go to court over it, “but I saw no other way to even begin to collect because we had tried numerous times and just couldn’t get a response.”

Lisi started Southern Colorado Youth Sports, a year after he was president of the Pueblo Pop Warner League. SCYS expanded to include teams in Colorado Springs.

Johnson says they didn’t require Lisi to pay up front because they trusted him, and he’d paid for equipment the year before.

“I guess I still trust people,” Johnson says, “but it makes it a little harder, unfortunately.”

Lisi didn?t want to talk about the judgement. He told us he didn’t know about last week’s court date, even though the court record shows he was hand delivered a summons on July 19th.

He tells us he’ll go to the District Courthouse In Pueblo Thursday and find out why he wasn’t notified. He also says, once he gathers the facts he’ll make statement, which we’ll bring to you.
