UPDATE: Crews Struggle To Reach Fire Near Cheyenne Mountain

Firefighters are struggling to reach the fire near Cheyenne Mountain. The Little Fountain Creek fire is located in an inaccessible area south of Cheyenne Mountain in the Pike National Forest.

Due to the steep and rocky terrain, fire crews must access the fire by dropping water from a helicopter. The fire has burned through nearly .5 acres near the top of Goat Mountain.

The fire is visible from both I-25 and Hwy 115. People can expect to see smoke from the region. Public safety is the number one priority and will be reassessed as conditions change.

The El Paso County sheriff’s office said it had received calls of smoke in the area Sunday afternoon.
