U.S. Northern Command Responds to Irene

U.S. Northern Command is coordinating the Department of Defense’s (DoD) support aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene.

The DoD will coordinate how Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) responds to the disaster. U.S. Northern Command is providing aircrafts for Federal Operations support to assist in transporting key personnel and supplies to support the disaster operations. It designated Fort A.P. Hill as a FEMA Federal Teams Staging Facility (FTSF) in the state of Virginia. Other designated Incident Support Bases include Westover Air Reserve Base, MA, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., and Fort Bragg, N.C.

U.S. Northern Command also activated Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officers to support the FEMA National Response Coordination Center. They have deployed transportation specialists to help strategize movement and logistics planning.
