Teen Driver Seriously Injured In Crash

Colorado Springs police are investigating a crash that left a driver seriously injured Sunday.

Police said it happened on Broadmoor Valley Road near Clubhouse Drive at about 1:30 a.m.

Officers said they were standing in the parking lot of the Cheyenne Mountain Conference Resort when theY saw the car go by at a high rate of speed. Moments later, officers said they heard the sound of a car crash.

The driver ran off the road and struck a large tree head-on, authorities said.

Police said the driver had to be extricated. Both the driver and passenger were taken to Memorial Hospital. Officials said the driver was seriously hurt and the passenger had minor injuries. Officials said both of the victims were teens. They were both wearing seat belts, which officials said likely saved their lives.

Investigators said they are looking into the possibility that the driver may have been drunk. They are also considering speed as a possible factor.
