Man Shot At Springs Apt. Complex, Shooter At Large
A shooting at a Colorado Springs apartment complex leaves one man injured.
It happened at the Pine Creek Village Apartments near South Academy and Fountain. Police said the victim, a 27-year-old black man, had injuries to his thigh and arm, but is expected to survive.
The victim was found by the gas pumps at a nearby Sam’s Club. Police said he was shot just before 8 p.m. inside an SUV in the parking lot of Pine Creek Village then made his way down a small hill to the store’s parking lot. Witnesses told police that two black men and a Hispanic man ran from the car after the shooting.
“I was leaving the Loaf N Jug and was just getting in, getting ready to get into my car when I saw these three young men running, said a woman who asked to remain anonymous. “They were two black teenage boys and one Spanish teenage boy. Approximately 16 to 20 years of age. They were running from the Pine Creek apartment area and I just stood there for a couple of minutes, just staring, not realizing what was going on.”
Herta Scott and her husband had just arrived at Sam’s before the shooting and they said they literally had a run in with the Hispanic man who fled the car. Scott said the man bumped into her and said someone was trying to shoot him. She said he asked for a cab then took off running.
“I was getting nervous and shaky because I started to think someone was just shooting people,” said Scott. “I really didn’t think anything about (the Hispanic man) being the shooter. He looked scared and he wanted to go.”
The victim is expected to survive. No arrests have been made.
